I emailed myself the links for some articles from the library databases, but they do not work. What is wrong?

Answer

This probably happened because the URLs you copied are “session-based”, which means that they stop working after you log off or navigate away from the page.  To avoid such a situation, make sure the URLs you email yourself are permanent, which means that they remain stable over time.

Once you find an article you need in a database, click on the title, and then look around for one of the following terms:

  1. Permalink

  1. Permanent URL

  1. PURL

  1. Stable URL

Alternatively, search for an indication such as:

  1. Link

  1. Page Link

  1. Get Link

  1. Share Link

If you do not see any of the above, this is probably because the particular database only uses permanent links. If this is the case, you can safely copy the URL directly from the browser you are using.
